Our Purpose

 ·        The purpose of S.O.L. is to showcase artistic and innovative works of women of all colors (African/African Diaspora, Alaska Native, Asian, Caribbean, European, Latin American, Maori, Native American Indian, South Sea and Pacific Island decent) among our Rutgers University students while providing a venue of amity, cultural enlightenment, and individual enhancement of both its members, and fellow students.

·        We are committed to creating, inspiring, and maintaining a space that engages in community awareness and social change through artistic and creative expression by means of community service, performance events, exhibits, lectures, support groups, open discussions and forums.

·        Finally, we intend to combine the works of women of color artists of our past with those of our future as a tool to gain wisdom, knowledge, and inspiration to share our histories, our struggles, and our accomplishments within the Rutgers community through our individual works of art.

Our Mission

SOL engages and welcomes those willing to teach as well as to learn, to inspire as well as to be inspired, to think outside the box as well as to manifest such thoughts into constructive, creative works of beauty, innovation, honesty, self-identity and empowerment. As we enlighten ourselves as women of color, let us ignite and share our light with others through our experiences, our dreams, and aspirations by means of the written, verbal, and visual forms of creativity.
